After starting the season off on a good note, the Philadelphia Phillies have seemed to come back to reality and have found themselves where they have been calling home the past six years, outside of first place.

Signing Bryce Harper, Andrew McCutchen, trading for Jean Segura and JT Realmuto gave the fans of Philadelphia the sense that the Phillies were ready to win this year and not hold anything back. Well this time last year, the Phillies had a better record than they do right now. Some people blame the pitching, some people blame Gabe Kapler, and some people hate that the Phillies are going to spend $300+ million on a player that cannot hit above .250.

All of those accusations are true and very disappointing, but my question is, where is the patience and commitment? The same fans that are upset with Bryce Harper, are the same people who went out and bought his jersey right away. As a fan, I understand how disappointing this season has been, but again, as a fan, I am still patient and committed to cheering for this team every game. Now, there have been some bright spots in the season, including Scott Kingery.  The Phillies’ utility player has shown up each game and have given the fans something to look forward to. Another bright spot was manager Gabe Kapler, earning his first career ejection as a manager. This alone shows that he will fight for his club and stick up for each player on the roster.

Some moves I would like to see happen to help this team in the future, is some bullpen and starting pitching. Marcus Stroman could be a good piece to the team, he is young and has a spark when he plays. Another big pitcher could be Madison Baumgarner. He's an aging veteran, but he has a great skillset and can throw a consistent fastball, along with mentoring some of the younger players. The 2019 season for the Phillies has been a roller coaster, but as a fan, speaking to other fans, be patient and commit to cheering them on every game. Not every outing is going to be pretty, but when they are, it'll be worth it.
